The NUW is the fresh food and supply chain union in Australia

We represent workers who pick, pack, manufacture, transport and store the fresh fruit & vegetables, poultry and dairy products that we all buy from the Big Supermarkets.


Our campaign unites fresh food workers with other food and supply chain workers to hold those with the power and the profits – Woolworths and Coles – accountable for improving conditions for workers in the industry. Since the exploitation of food workers was [exposed on ABC’s Four Corners]
我們的目標是動員所有的生鮮產品背後的辛苦工作的工人,以及所有供應鏈底下的工作者,結合這些力量施壓給澳洲當地最大的量販巨擘- Woolworths 以及Coles,要求他們對該產業底下的工作者,負起連帶責任。尤其當今電視傳媒不斷地充斥著食品生產鏈下的工人,遭到雇主不當的剝削狀況。

Together with the community – customers who want fair food – fresh food workers are calling on supermarkets, government and producers to ensure their food is produced ethically by guaranteeing food workers have their rights protected and earn a fair, living wage.



Worker empowerment


Food workers must be empowered to enforce fair labour conditions at their workplaces. Supermarkets and producers must ensure workers’ rights are fully protected, including the rights to:

  • Join the union
  • Collectively bargain to improve wages and conditions
  • Have their health and safety protected
  • Speak up about issues without retaliation or persecution

  • 確保其工作的環境及安全衛生受到保障
  • 可以為自己發聲,而不在職場受到不當的騷擾

Stronger workplace protections

Existing labour standards on farms have failed to ensure that workers’ rights are protected. Supermarkets and producers need to sit down with the union to ensure that stronger standards are in place to ensure workers are paid correct and fair wages and entitlements, and have their health and safety protected.



Ethical purchasing practices


Supermarkets need to negotiate a new model of regulation for the industry, which aligns the supermarket’s purchasing decisions with their ethical and legal obligations to ensure food is produced fairly. Coles and Woolworths must pay producers a fair price which enables them to cover the cost of labour rights compliance and pay workers a living wage. Supermarkets must proactively support those suppliers who do the right thing and respect workers’ rights.

Labour hire licensing and regulation


The widespread use of unscrupulous labour hire operators has driven exploitation on farms and must end immediately. Labour Hire operators on farms should be licensed and regulated. Producers must work with the union to ensure they replace existing dodgy contractors with reputable providers who will pay workers the correct entitlements, or employ workers directly.

Fresh food workers win right to bargain!  
NUW members have had another victory in the supermarket supply-chain, forcing Costa - Australia's biggest horticultural producer - to the bargaining table.
