Victory for Coles' cold store workers

NUW members at Polar Fresh, Coles' cold storage warehouse, voted up their new workplace agreement after striking for three days.

They won: 120 new secure jobs - 50 permanent full time & 70 labour hire agency workers converted to direct employment - with ongoing conversion rights for labour hire casual workers.

Members also won an average of 4.75% wage increase per year. This will see them get to $31 by 1 Jan 2019.

Working conditions such as paid breaks, RDOs and double time for overtime after 2 hours were also won.

This was achieved by solidarity, union members sticking together and amazing support from fellow NUW members across Australia and other unionists in many industries. NUW members throughout the fresh food supply chain understand that only through sticking together will they be able to achieve justice from the Big Supermarkets. Whether it's permanent jobs, living wages or an end to exploitation and intimidation, fresh food workers will unite for a fair go!
